I didn’t get to go around to all the shows this month for the First Thursday art walk but I did manage to make it out to two very important ones: Kelly Ording at SFMOMA Artist’s Gallery and Skinner at 111 Minna. The new work byKelly Ording was beautiful to say the least. I love the direction she’s taken with her colors and imagery: Serene scenes of delicate boats balancing precariously atop seas of vibrantly colored waves. Gorgeous!
After Kelly’s show I headed over to 111 Minna Gallery for the opening of Skinner’s show: Worship Thee Kindly the Dark Hand That Guides Me. This was the most fun I’ve had at a show in a long time. Here’s a few pics but seriously, to get the full effect you have to check it out in person. I love that Skinner had fun with this show while putting the hammer down and producing an insane amount of quality work. From the looks of it, you’d think this was a retrospective or a that he’d had years to work on this oevre. Worship Thee... redefines the possibilities for an installation-based show, raising the bar for all who dare follow this act.
