The recent work of New York painter, Julie Evans explores the intersection of adornment and devotion. Organic forms graced with a draping of pearl-like strands emerge through clouds of colorful vapor, floating like planetary bodies in the vast emptiness of white space. Evans’s previous work bore the mark of a conscious connection to her studies in India with their vivid colors, mandala patterning, and miniature proportions (a reference to the traditional, religious Indian art of miniature painting). The abstract connotations of this new body of work are a peaceful meditation invoking a new sense of reverence and worship.
