Triple Base Gallery, SFAC, and the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development have teamed up on a project that will place art installations by local San Francisco artists in the storefront windows of vacant establishments. There was a recent call for artists to submit proposals for this project and the selection results are in. Congrats to two of my favorite artists, Kelly Ording and Jet Martinez whose proposal was chosen for one of the 24th Street Corridor installations. Here’s how they envision transforming their storefront:
“Ms. Teriosa”
The artists will transform a vacant storefront into a free fortune-telling business. Cards left outside the storefront will instruct passersby to ask “Ms. Teriosa” a question about their future and deposit the card inside a mailbox slot. One week later, the questions will be answered and displayed in the window. The installation will include a bright, bold, carnivalesque mural on the facade and hand-painted element on the storefront windows.
I can’t wait to check it out! The program launches in October and will last through January 2010. See more of the selected artists here.
