Doug and Mike Starn’s rooftop installation, Big Bambú: You Can’t, You Don’t, and You Won’t Stop, bridges realms of sculpture, architecture, and performance. Visitors are meant to witness the creation and evolving incarnations of Big Bambú as it is constructed throughout the spring, summer, and fall by the artists and a team of rock climbers. Using 5000 bamboo poles ranging in length from 30 – 40 feet, this piece overlooks Central Park and will eventually stand 50 feet high, 100 feet long and 50 feet wide.
The Met project is a more ambitious variation of one they did in 2008 in an old foundry that serves as their studio in Beacon, N.Y. That installation is still on view and will continue growing this summer as well.
