"Moment of Reflection" - recycled house paint and spray paint on found materials, 48" x 48", 2009

Erik Otto seeks to visually narrate dreams battled by undercurrents of destruction. His work takes his viewers to a place where chaos meets peace and loose meets refinement.   Erik’s pieces and installation will be on view at Fabric 8 for his open studio on May 16th from 2-8pm.

Erik will have signed copies of his new book, Paper Fabric Wood, as well as screen prints and paintings.  The day will consist of a backyard BBQ, a live DJ/music set by Grown Kids Radio and live painting by Erik.  The entire show will be broadcasted live within the Mission District on 94.7 fm.

Fabric 8 is located at 3318 22nd Street, San Francisco
Artwork on view: May 14 – 17

I took a trip down to the SF Recycling & Disposal center – aka The Dump – to visit San Francisco artist, Jane Kim at her studio. The Dump offers a fantastic Aritst in Residence program that Jane was selected for this year and she was kind enough to give me the grand tour.

Good morning and happy Monday!

How would you like this handsome guy to wake you up every day? Might not be so bad…

Anyway! I have a big day planned today with lots of visits with some of my favorite artists. First, I’ll be swinging by the studio of Jane Kim – she’s doing a residency at The Dump. If anyone is considering applying for this residency you won’t want to miss the post on this visit.

Next, I’ll be heading over to check out Silver’s new work. I’ve been wanting to curate a show with him for a while so hopefully we’ll get to work together soon!

Then, I’m off to see Kelly Ording to return the lovely artwork she let me borrow to show to a couple of galleries on her behalf.

And last, I’ll be visiting my friend and inspired seamstress, Amanda Asbury of Panhandle Handmade, to work on a little project of my own and take some pics of her sewing studio.

Keep an eye out for all of these posts to show up soon…
