New York-based artist Ian Carpenter creates abstract depictions of imagined landscapes using bright swatches of color, scrawled line work, and languid brush strokes. The resulting effect stirs the emotions and is at once playful and serious; appealing as much for its curiously surreal thematics as for its lack of need for referential connotations.
