As of September 14th, The Sarkozy administration put a ban on wearing hijab–the traditional head covering that some Islamic women wear–in the public spaces of France. Tensions have been flaring for a while between the growing Islamic immigrant community and various countries within the European Union. One interesting example that comes to mind is the Minaret controversy in Switzerland, which spawned this Russian Constructivist-inspired poster:
Newly emerging renegade, Princess Hijab speaks to the tension with her art practice which involves illegally decorating the Paris Metro by “hijabizing” commercial advertisements.
